Project Overview
During Techathon 3.0, hosted by AISSMS IOIT, we developed and showcased Breathe Better (bb), a comprehensive environmental intelligence platform. Breathe Better translates complex air quality indices (AQI) and pollutant levels into actionable health insights for the general public.
The project combines real-time sensor ingestion, predictive forecasting, interactive geographic mapping, and a Gemini AI-driven conversational health advisor.
The Challenge
Air quality index values are often published as abstract numbers (e.g., AQI of 152) on government portals. Most citizens do not know what these numbers imply for their health, what specific precautions to take, or how air quality will fluctuate over the next 24 hours.
Key Features Built & Showcased
- Real-Time AQI Dashboard: A sleek interface summarizing primary pollutants ($PM_2.5$, $PM_10$, $NO_2$, $CO$) alongside intuitive health advisory tags.
- Interactive Heatmap: A Leaflet-powered map displaying regional pollution hotspots by overlaying coordinate-based AQI values.
- AI Health Assistant: A chatbot powered by Google Gemini that answers health queries, suggesting precautions based on the user’s local air quality.
- Multilingual TTS: Utilized Sarvam AI’s Text-to-Speech API to vocalize health advisories in regional Indian languages, making the insights accessible to a broader audience.
- Predictive AQI Forecasting: A page detailing future AQI estimates using local atmospheric prediction models.
Experience & Impact
Showcasing Breathe Better at Techathon 3.0 allowed us to present our frontend skills (GSAP, Framer Motion, and Tailwind CSS) alongside RAG integrations. The project received highly positive feedback from mentors and peers for its visual polish, responsive charts, and localized voice synthesis features.
